Estuary and Salmon Restoration Program (ESRP) » Grants

ESRP Grant Competition is Complete!

The Estuary and Salmon Restoration Program has wrapped up our 2016 grant competition season!  We are so encouraged and inspired by all the work happening around Puget Sound.  Since this past spring we have:

  • Visited over 50 project sites with our ESRP, WDFW Engineering Team, and Small Grants review team.
  • Reviewed 80 project proposals as part of multiple separate ESRP grant program types.
  • Engaged with 43 regional technical review volunteers (representing expertise in science, policy, tribal, lead entity, agency, project sponsors, local government) for project applications.
  • Reviewed all PSAR and Floodplains by Design proposals to look for alignment with ESRP nearshore priorities and coordinated with the Salmon Recovery Funding Board technical review team.
  • Developed a prioritized project list of 47 individual requests (59% of 80 pre-proposal applications) for funding totaling $29 million.

This year, we have 5 separate grant offerings for project sponsors: Restoration and Protection Grants, a Small Grants, Learning, and a streamlined Portfolio Project process for both learning and restoration projects.  Portfolio projects are those that have successfully competed and been awarded ESRP funds in past grant rounds (at an advanced stage in their project development) with a funding need to advance to the final stage of their project.  All these projects are reviewed and ranked in order to create one single integrated ESRP investment plan.

ESRP has requested a $20 million capital budget appropriation from the Washington State Legislature and will share information about these priority projects upon request.  Please let us know if you need any information from ESRP about these priority projects that will restore and protect ecosystem functions in Puget Sound. We are in the process of developing our program report and outreach materials for legislative audiences.

We are excited continue this important work with local partners to restore Puget Sound's nearshore. Thank you!
Sincerely,

The ESRP Team
